OVERSEAS INDIAN CITIZENSHIP

WHO CAN APPLY?

Any person who:

  1. Was born in India
  2. or whose parents or grandparents were born in India

Note that if only your spouse or in laws were Indian citizens, you cannot apply.

WHAT DOCUMENTS ARE NEEDED:

  1. Proof of the Indian citizenship held before, or held by parents: eg Old passports, birth certificates.
  2. Proof of US Passport
  3. If claiming through parents then birth certificates of the child showing Indian citizenship
  4. Draft or Money Order for $275 per person, plus $15/-for postage and four passport size photos each

Register online and fill in Part A online

Print the form.  Part B of the form has to be filled out manually.  Two copies of the form is needed

It is best to go in person and file, but petitions can be filed by mail as well.
